Does anyone have recommendations for CI-related conferences that they've attended in the past that had good content and speakers? Any conferences on the radar for 2020?
From what I've found, most appear to be academic in nature rather than related to product marketing, sales, market intelligence, etc.
I'm wondering too - is it worth attending SCIP? Is it worth getting their certification?
Kathy a lot depends on your industry. SCIP is always a good start if you have never attended any conference around CI / MI before =, because there is a mix of people from different backgrounds and not dominated by pharma folks. For a first conference I would recommend it.
There are others that are cool as well like https://www.competitive-market-intelligence.com/ that happens both in North America and in Europe, although this one has a bit more "commercial field".
For a high tech related CI conference I would recommend definitely the competitive marketing summit that has been going on for the last couple of years in Denver. I attended the recent one in October 2019, we actually sponsored it and exhibited as I am from the vendor side of things, and I can say that content wise it was really good. You see a lot depends on the content of the presentations and in recent years most conferences have been lagging...
Be very skeptical of CI certification, Kathy. The CI field is moribund and there are just not many full-time CI opportunities available. I'm happy to share CI material with you if you want to learn the field or learn more about it - but I can't in good conscience say ANY CI certification is a good value. Joining SCIP may be worthwhile; they have a new CEO who I like that is doing good things.
Jonathan I replied to the threat below but in essence in North America we are talking mainly about SCIP conferences, this one here: https://www.competitive-market-intelligence.com/ and the competitive marketing summit in Denver: https://www.competitivemarketingsummit.com/
Thanks Evangelos! Much appreciated
